Something to hold in your hands ~ more early glimpses
Welcome to Gentle Musings, a publication about reconnecting with yourself, experiencing life as a creative practice, and living out loud. Gentle Musings is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support this work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Baking bread pudding. Pouring candles. Knitting scarves while watching favorite old shows on the projector (Curb anyone?). Drawing and collaging cards for the people that I love. Finally mending old clothes that have been glaring at me from a pile in the back of my closet…
The colder, shorter days always have me itching to make things with my hands, to see something realized and hold it through the process. Now that I am finally settled after the last few years of moving around, the urge to create is even more amplified (you should see how it looks over here!)
The other day, I announced Regarding Dew’s upcoming online shop opening by sharing a new offering of handmade, custom affirmation cards—a natural side-step from giving prompts in the Community Discovery Writing Gatherings. Well, there are more handmade, custom, one-of-a-kind-pieces on their way.
Back in 2018, I unexpectedly found myself making crowns—one size for adults and children and also very small crowns, I imagined for a doll or to sit on one’s shelf as art.
You never know what happens when you start making things:
I ended up making custom crowns for a couple bunnies and two very lucky cats in Thailand.
The crowns are making a return
I imagine them for birthday parties, dress-up, or a necessary adornment to an outfit for any old day. Someone that had bought a crown in 2018 shared that they wear it as a ritual when they clean their house! And how beautiful would one look on the top of a stack of towering books as it glistens in the sunlight?
Curious about the new evolution of Regarding Dew?
I’m planning to write a Studio Notes on the topic soon, but let me say:
The early days of the studio started with handmade goods. I’m picking up where I left off while also honoring and crafting what has since been built, in large part because of the people who have taken interest in the ecosystem of Regarding Dew! The gatherings and writings will continue—with much more to come in this area…
You’ll also find…
I use locally bought, upcycled, and vintage materials as much as possible. This includes wire and clasps. If you have received something in the mail from me before, then you know that this extends to the wrapping as much as possible, too.
Stay tuned for more soon XO
Maggy
